The power of Twitter (it helped give us Donald Trump)
Twitter is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, "tweets," restricted to 140 characters. Registered users can post tweets, but those who are unregistered can only read them. Users access Twitter through its website interface, SMS or a mobile device app. Twitter Inc. is based in San Francisco and has more than 25 offices around the world.
Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams and launched in July, whereby the service rapidly gained worldwide popularity. In 2012, more than 100 million users posted 340 million tweets a day, and the service handled an average of 1.6 billion search queries per day. In 2013, it was one of the ten most-visited websites and has been described as "the SMS of the Internet". As of March 2016, Twitter had more than 310 million monthly active users. On the day of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Twitter proved to be the largest source of breaking news, with 40 million tweets sent by 10 p.m. (Eastern Time USA) that day.[
Let’s look at these Twitter Statistics:
1. Donald Trump. 21.8 million Followers in Twitter. 34,400 Tweets
2. Hillary Clinton. 12.6 million Followers in Twitter. 9.800 Tweets
3. Barack Obama 14.6 million 15,400 tweets
4. Angela Merkel 84,000 followers 2,643 tweets
5. David Cameron 1.61m followers 2.517 tweets
6. Malcolm Turnbull 741,000 followers 10,100 tweets
7. Theresa May 217,000 followers 191 tweets
Donald Trump simply out-tweeted Hillary Clinton.
The huge advantage of Twitter, which was used to perfection by Donald Trump, is that if you read or hear something bad about yourself, you simply send out a Tweet saying “That’s a lot of rubbish”.
It takes a lot of power away from the mainstream media.
Remember when the Melbourne Age and the Sydney Morning Herald were described as “Rivers of Gold” with all their classified advertising, particularly on Saturdays. No More

Employment has gone to seek.com.au
Similarly, Twitter has put a huge dent in the power of traditional media. Time does not stand still.
